This is a Saxon style clasp called a buckle brooch. The pin fastener is based on the Sutton Hoo shoulder clasps. This clasp sews onto the cloak and is
fastened by inserting the pin. It is a very sturdy and secure clasp that will hold the heaviest of cloaks. It comes set with a variety of popular stones.
Favorites are amber, amethyst, lapis, and garnet. This clasp is currently available for $125 Canadian Dollars.

Pennanular Brooch

This is Master Ark's new pennanular design. It is available in cast bronze with a number of popular stones to chose from.
The pennanular brooch was the way to fasten a cloak for over 1000 years in northern Europe. It spread from its Celtic origins
to be embraced by the Saxons, Romans,Viking and Scandinavian cultures. This pennanular is 70mm across with a 37mm center opening.
The overall length of the pin is 92mm.
To use a pennanular you drop the pin through the slot in the ring, put it through both layers of your cloak fabric, bring it back up through the slot,
and then rotate the ring to fasten it.

This is my largest cloak clasp and is designed to hold a heavy cloak. It is inspired by a Saxon buckle brooch and is cast in bronze.
It has three loops on the back of each piece to sew it onto the cloak.
It fastens with a double hook and loop making it very strong and secure, yet easy to fasten. It is set with three semi precious stones.
Garnet, lapis, amber, or amethyst are the most popular choices.

This sterling silver oak leaf clasp is lightweight and delicate, yet sturdy. It is sewn onto the cloak using three loops on the back of each half. It then closes using a simple to use hook and loop. It is suitable for fairy finery, a medieval cloak, or your cape.   $125 Canadian Dollars

Floral Clasp   The inspiration for this design comes from an illumination from the Winchester Bible, done about 1175. The clasp sews on and works with a hook and loop. It is 9 cm long in total by 5 cm. The cost is $50 Canadian.

This clasp is 15 1/2 cm in total length. It has four points of attachment on each side to sew it onto the cloak. The tongue serves as the hook. This clasp is recommended for a mid-weight cloak or cloak with fitted shoulders. The eyes are set with garnet.

This clasp is available for $125 Canadian Dollars.


      I designed this sword and shield clasp so that the sword would act as the pin. The sword is 9 1/2 cm long. The shiels is 5 1/2 cm across.
The piece is cast in bronze. The price is $60 Canadian.
