This is a Saxon style clasp called a buckle brooch. The pin fastener is based on the Sutton Hoo shoulder clasps. This clasp sews onto the cloak and is fastened by inserting the pin. It is a very sturdy and secure clasp that will hold the heaviest of cloaks. It comes set with a variety of popular stones. Favorites are amber, amethyst, lapis, and garnet. This clasp is currently available for $125 Canadian Dollars.
Pennanular Brooch
This is Master Ark's new pennanular design. It is available in cast bronze with a number of popular stones to chose from. The pennanular brooch was the way to fasten a cloak for over 1000 years
in northern Europe. It spread from its Celtic origins to be embraced by
the Saxons, Romans,Viking and Scandinavian cultures. This pennanular
is 70mm across with a 37mm center opening. The overall length of the
pin is 92mm. To use a pennanular you drop the pin through the slot in
the ring, put it through both layers of your cloak fabric, bring it
back up through the slot, and then rotate the ring to fasten it. (See
