About Us

Master Ark, otherwise known as Bill Guse, attended his first Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) event in 1977 and immediately became involved in the group.  At that time he lived in New Mexico which was in the Principality of the Outlands, Kingdom of Atenveldt.  When the Outlands became a Kingdom, he was its first Arts and Science Champion.  The following year he received the Order of the Laurel and the title "Master".  He became a regular merchant, selling the jewelry and cloak clasps he made, at the Society's largest events - Pennsic, Estrella, and Gulf Wars.

He moved to the Barony of Western Seas (Maui, Hawaii) where he met his lovely wife Katarina ( Karen Lee) on the beach.  She was vacationing from her home in England, leading Master Ark to go spend time there.  Together they visited museums - the British Museum in London, the Ashmolean in Oxford, and museums in York, West Stow, Stonehenge, Cornwall, Dublin, Edinburgh, Paris, Rome, Ostia Antica, Rhodes, Keflonia.  It was both inspiring and humbling to see first hand the work of these ancient craftsmen.

Bill and Karen were married on Maui but subsequently moved to British Columbia, Canada.  Recently they moved to Calgary, Alberta to be nearer to their grandsons.   Together they create energetic jewelry - jewelry designed to empower the wearer.  Karen designs beautiful and powerful gemstone necklaces.  Bill creates ritual tools and talismans.  These pieces, as well as more goddess and pagan oriented designs, can be seen on their other web site - http://www.mysticspiritdesign.com

As the lady Katerina, Karen has joined Master Ark in the Current Middle Ages.

Customer testimonials

"A good source of interesting and moderately-priced jewelry and pins is Master Ark (Bill Guse). He works mostly in bronze and white bronze, with a silver item or two. I particularly recommend his... "Visigoth fibula" (a heavier and more ornate pin)... sized to be worn to pin the shoulders of your garments, as opposed to the heavier cloak pins most merchants sell. ... He features several totem/symbolic animals (wolves, ravens, boars, etc) in inexpensive pins/pendants, and other pieces. Master Ark is THE merchant I would recommend for finding pins and brooches appropriate to pre-Viking Irish re-enacting".
